The Bermuda Triangle

In consensus, we all agree that the Bosphorus is one of a kind. We insist there is no equivalent to the divine pleasure of eating simit (Turkish bagel), drinking tea and taking a puff from your cigarette while the sweet warm breeze is caressing your ears on a ferry from Beşiktaş to Kadıköy. I was a smoker once upon a time so I swear on the turquoise colors of the Bosphorus that without the slightest bit of exaggeration, it is true!  We are always told how we also take it for granted that we cross from one continent to another for a daily commute. We do not seem to be remembering this over-quoted fact unless reminded by a foreigner or a tourism commercial!

When you secure yourself an outdoor seat with the sun winking at you, you will feel this irresistible urge to make pictures of the Bosphorus. You will at one point get confused, Is this the Bosphorus or the Golden Horn? The silhoutte of the old town with Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace on one side, the Blue Mosque in the background. The Maiden’s Tower and still green Asia on the other side. Then appear the sea gulls, which follow the ferries as if they are the pied piper of Hamelin. That’s what I  call the fatal Bermuda triangle; the city silhoutte, the ferries and the sea gulls. We all fall into that trap and make gazillions of pictures, most of which we have no idea how to sort out. Lately, I was bragging about how I have avoided such photos on my blog:) One short ride to the other side with the camera in my bag, now I have over 140 pics. I give up!! Look at those funny ones, all acrobats to grab  my simit crumbs! (This is the trick to take seagull photos; keep some of the simit you bought for them:)
